Leica's V-LUX 40 Digital Camera takes the most popular
features in pocket cameras and makes a Leica out of them. This
sophisticated pocket camera has an expansive 14.1MP resolution with a
newly re-designed CMOS sensor, a 24-480mm (equivalent in full-frame
format) 20x ultra zoom lens, and full 1920 x 1080 HD video.
The V-LUX 40 can be operated as easily as the simplest point and
shoot camera, or it can be precisely controlled by the
photographer--like a Leica. Starting with a true wide-angle 24mm at the
wide end of the zoom, you can move out into wildlife photographer
territory with an extremely long 480mm telephoto. In addition, 3D
photographs can be produced with the V-LUX 40.
As a travel camera, the V-LUX 40 is unsurpassed: a compact,
lightweight form factor, superb still and video images at virtually any
focal length, image stabilization and up to 3200 ISO sensitivity for
clear photos every time, built-in GPS and detailed maps on an included
DVD--this a camera that will capture the memories for you. The upgraded
autofocus speed (0.1 second) will make sure you don't miss a shot
waiting for the camera to respond.
Like all things Leica, this
camera's design follows the principles of form and function. The camera
is also ergonomically crafted - allowing for ease of use, a much
appreciated aspect when on vacation or at a party. The controls of the
camera are positioned in an easily accessible manner, with the mode dial
on the camera's top plate for fast and simple switching between various
modes and manual operation. The video release button is on the top of
the camera as well for quicker access than on previous version of this
camera. Of course, the 40's most user-friendly usage option might be the
touchscreen display which allows for intuitive menu navigation,
capture, and review.
The V-LUX 40 comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe
Premiere Elements 10--user-friendly software options that provide a
range of functions for the user in post-production. Premiere Elements 10
is used for editing video footage while Photoshop Elements 10 provides
the user with a number of useful photo editing tools.
